Treatments and preparation
A trichologist plays an important, multifaceted role in the perioperative care of a patient following a hair transplant. They support the patient not only through diagnostics but also through education, logistical assistance, and psychological support.

A trichologist will take care of preparing the scalp.

Hair transplant is a surgical procedure that requires appropriate preparation. The scalp should be clean and free from severe inflammation or skin conditions in an active flare-up phase.
There are situations where the hair transplant procedure should be postponed due to active inflammation or other scalp issues. The final decision regarding eligibility for the procedure rests with the doctor.
Properly prepared scalp promotes the correct healing process after the procedure. A trichologist will handle the preparation of the scalp and the selection of the appropriate care regimen.
Pre-hair transplant diagnostics
Two key elements of a trichological assessment are:
- Trichoscopic examination – objective assessment of the scalp, hair, hair follicle openings, and the donor area using magnification.
- Analysis of blood test results – helpful in identifying deficiencies and disorders that may affect hair condition and growth. Abnormal results require consultation with a doctor.
Trichoscopy – a key diagnostic tool
Prior to a hair transplant, trichoscopy allows for the assessment of the degree of hair miniaturization, the progression of hair loss, and the condition of the donor area. It also enables the detection of signs that may indicate inflammation, seborrhea, scaling, or other scalp abnormalities.
Trichoscopy serves not only an evaluative function but also an educational one. It allows the patient to view the condition of the scalp and hair under magnification and to compare changes occurring during successive stages of regrowth.
After a hair transplant, it is advisable to continue with follow-up visits, as they allow for monitoring the appearance and condition of the scalp and documenting the regrowth process.
A trichologist can detect changes not yet visible to the naked eye, help select the appropriate care regimen, and identify symptoms requiring consultation with a doctor or the clinic performing the procedure.
Proper preparation, a discussion of the recovery process, and regular check-ups help the patient better understand the stages of healing and reduce the uncertainty associated with awaiting the procedure's outcome.
The role of the trichologist in hair transplants
A trichologist plays a vital and multifaceted role in patient care before and after a hair transplant. They support the patient by assessing the condition of the scalp and hair, providing guidance on proper care and education, and monitoring the subsequent stages of regeneration and regrowth.
A trichologist assesses the condition of the scalp and hair, helps prepare the scalp for the procedure, and explains the subsequent stages of regeneration and regrowth to the patient.
A trichologist organizes the information, explains the natural course of regrowth, and helps the patient set realistic expectations. Follow-up trichoscopy allows for the comparison of changes occurring over subsequent months.
A trichologist monitors the condition of the scalp, helps select appropriate post-procedure care, and explains natural phenomena such as temporary hair loss, known as "shock loss."
A trichologist can be a valuable member of the team caring for the patient before and after the procedure. However, their support does not replace medical qualifications, dermatological diagnostics, or the treatment of potential complications.ia ewentualnych powikłań
hair transplant methods
What method do we use for hair transplants?
At Aestepool Clinic, we specialize in hair transplantation using exclusively the Slits Micro FUE method, and occasionally DHI. We do not use the outdated FUT (STRIP) method, which leaves visible scars. The choice of method depends on the degree of hair loss, hair structure, and the doctor's assessment.
Micro FUE
Micro FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method is currently the most widely performed hair transplant technique in the world. It involves extracting individual follicular units using precision micro-blades with a diameter of 0.6–0.9 mm.
The advantages of this method include the absence of visible scarring, a short recovery period, and the ability to wear short hairstyles after the procedure. Micro FUE is ideal for patients with receding hairlines or advanced hair loss—specifically those requiring a large number of grafts in a single session.
This term refers to the method of harvesting hair follicles from the donor area.

Slits
The "Slits" method defines the technique for implanting previously harvested hair follicles. The surgeon makes incisions using very fine blades (e.g., steel or sapphire) and then places the harvested grafts into them. The prepared channels must be of the appropriate depth and width to allow the doctor, in the subsequent step, to precisely implant the hair follicles into the prepared sites using tweezers.
This is one of the most widely used methods of hair follicle implantation in the world.

DHI – Direct Hair Implantation
Direct Hair Implantation – is an advanced hair transplantation method derived from the FUE technique. It was first used in South Korea and is now considered one of the most precise hair transplant methods in the world.
The key difference compared to classic FUE is the combination of two stages—creating channels in the skin and implanting hair follicles—into a single step performed with one instrument. This instrument is the DHI implanter, or Choi pen—a specialized medical tool featuring a needle and a plunger, resembling a fountain pen.
