What is a hair transplant procedure?
Hair transplant is a cosmetic surgery procedure that involves harvesting healthy hair follicles from a donor area—most commonly the back of the head or the temples—and transplanting them into areas affected by hair loss. The transplanted follicles retain their genetic characteristics and continue to grow throughout the patient's life, yielding a permanent and natural-looking result.
The hair transplant procedure is performed under local anesthesia, making it virtually painless. Depending on the extent of hair loss and the number of grafts required, the transplant takes between 6 and 10 hours.
What is a graft?
Graft is a transplant unit, a single hair follicle containing 1 to 4 hairs. During a single hair transplant procedure at Aestepool Clinic, up to 6,500 grafts can be harvested and implanted, resulting in as many as 15,000–18,000 new hairs.
The number of grafts required depends on the degree of hair loss: receding hairlines require approximately 1,500–2,500 grafts, advanced crown balding – 3,500–5,000, and extensive balding across the entire scalp – as many at least 5,000–7,000 grafts.
Androgenetic alopecia – the most common cause
Patients at Aestepool Clinic struggle with various stages of hair loss. We most frequently encounter androgenetic alopecia, a condition that is far more common in men but also affects women.
The primary cause of androgenetic alopecia is the body's hypersensitivity to DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a derivative of testosterone. DHT indirectly contributes to the miniaturization of hair follicles, causing them to become progressively thinner and weaker until they eventually disappear completely.
DHT has an indirect effect on hair miniaturization, resulting in fewer hairs per follicle cluster and, ultimately, complete hair loss.
In the first stage of androgenetic alopecia, the hairline recedes at the temples, resulting in the formation of so-called receding corners. It is precisely at this point that many people decide to seek treatment or undergo a hair transplant.
Receding hairlines affect both men and women. While long hair or bangs can conceal them, they do not halt the balding process. Addressing a receding hairline is considered a minor hair restoration procedure; consequently, a hair transplant for this area is faster and less expensive than one required for advanced hair loss.

When do the results of the transplant become visible?
Hair transplantation is a long-term process, yet it yields lasting and satisfying results. It is important to be patient and understand the various stages of healing.
It is worth remembering that hair transplantation does not yield immediate results. Shortly after the procedure, the transplanted hair will fall out (a shock effect), and new, much stronger hair will grow back in its place.
0–14 days
Post-procedure healing
Scabs and redness are normal symptoms. Follow the instructions for washing your hair and avoid sun exposure.
2–8 weeks
Shock effect – graft shedding
Transplanted hair falls out—this is a completely normal process. The hair follicle remains in the skin and enters a resting phase.
3–4 months
The first new hair
New hair begins to grow from the follicles. The first results of the transplant become visible to the naked eye.
6–8 months
Significant improvement in density
The new hair becomes thicker and denser. The effect becomes increasingly visible and natural.
12 months
The final result of the transplant

When is it worth opting for a hair transplant?
The decision to undergo a hair transplant is highly personal and depends on several factors. The most important step is to fully diagnose the causes of hair loss and rule out other underlying issues beforehand.
A hair transplant is the right solution when:

Stages of androgenetic alopecia
Androgenetic alopecia is assessed using the Norwood scale for men and the Ludwig scale for women. The scale will help you determine the stage of hair loss:
- Stage I – II: Slight hairline recession at the temples. Receding hairline – quick procedure, small number of grafts (1,500–2,500).
- Stage III: Visible receding hairline and/or balding at the crown. 2,500–3,500 grafts required.
- Stage IV–V:Combination of receding hairline and balding at the crown. 3,500–5,000 grafts required.
- Stage VI–VII: Extensive balding across the entire scalp, with preserved strips on the sides. 5,000–7000 grafts required.

What method do we use for hair transplants?
At Aestepool Clinic, we specialize in hair transplantation using exclusively the Slits Micro FUE method. We do not use the outdated FUT (STRIP) method, which leaves visible scars. The choice of method depends on the degree of hair loss, hair structure, and the doctor's assessment.
Micro FUE
(Follicular Unit Extraction) method is currently the most widely performed hair transplant technique in the world. It involves extracting individual follicular units using precision micro-blades with a diameter of 0.6–0.9 mm.
The advantages of this method include the absence of visible scarring, a short recovery period, and the ability to wear short hairstyles after the procedure. Micro FUE is ideal for patients with receding hairlines or advanced hair loss—specifically those requiring a large number of grafts in a single session.
This term refers to the method of harvesting hair follicles from the donor area.
Slits
The "Slits" method defines the technique for implanting previously harvested hair follicles. The surgeon makes incisions using very thin blades (e.g., steel or sapphire) and then places the harvested grafts into them. The prepared channels must be of the appropriate depth and width to allow the doctor, in the subsequent step, to precisely implant the hair follicles into the prepared sites using tweezers.
This is one of the most widely used methods of hair follicle implantation in the world.
Direct Hair Implantation (DHI)
Direct Hair Implantation – is an advanced hair transplantation method derived from the FUE technique. It was first used in South Korea and is now considered one of the most precise hair transplant methods in the world..
The key difference compared to classic FUE is the combination of two stages, creating channels in the skin and implanting hair follicles into a single step performed with one instrument. This instrument is the DHI implanter, or Choi pen a specialized medical tool featuring a needle and a plunger, resembling a fountain pen.
