Slits
The implantation method involves making very small incisions in the scalp at the sites where the transplanted hair follicles are to be placed.

Hair transplant using the Slits FUE method
Slits - these are very small incisions made in the scalp where the transplanted hair follicles are to be placed.
Their significance is crucial, as they determine:
- hair growth angle,
- direction of growth,
- density hairs
- natural-looking hairline.
The surgeon makes incisions using very fine blades (e.g., steel or sapphire) and then places the harvested grafts into them.
Slitting can be performed using various tools and methods.
In practice, the following terms are encountered:
- Slit technique for making incisions prior to graft implantation.
- Sapphire slits – incisions made with a sapphire blade.
- Pre-made slits – all incisions are prepared right before follicles are placed.
The SLITS technique is not a distinct type of hair transplant, but rather a method of preparing the recipient site. It is most commonly used during FUE transplants.
Why is the slit-making stage so important?
That is precisely when the "plan" for the future hairstyle is created. If the incisions are made incorrectly, the hair may:
- grow at too steep an angle,
- stick out instead of lying naturally,
- create an unnatural hairline,
- appear thinner despite an adequate number of grafts.
That is why many experts believe that the most important part of the procedure is the creation of the slits by an experienced surgeon, rather than the actual placement of the grafts.
Sagittal Slits
Sagittal slits is one of the two most commonly used techniques for making incisions during hair transplantation. Unlike lateral (coronal) slits, the blade is positioned parallel to the direction of hair growth.
What do sagittal slits look like?
The doctor makes very thin incisions in accordance with the planned direction of hair growth. Grafts are then implanted into these incisions.
Advantages of sagittal slits
- Easier graft implantation – Many surgeons believe that such an orientation facilitates the placement of the follicles.
- Lower risk of damage to adjacent follicles – especially when densifying areas where one's own hair is still growing.
- Very good results with an experienced operator. – The technique is proven and widely used throughout the world.
Defects
- Some surgeons believe that it is more difficult to achieve hair that lies very flat against the scalp, especially at the frontal hairline.
- In some situations, it may be more difficult to achieve the same impression of density as with well-executed lateral slits.
In practice, many renowned surgeons achieve excellent, highly natural results using both sagittal and lateral slits. Some even employ both techniques depending on the area of the scalp—for instance, using one method for the hairline and another for the crown.
Lateral Slits
Lateral slits (also called coronal slits) It is a special method of making incisions in the scalp during a hair transplant..
W tej technice nacięcia są ustawione poprzecznie do kierunku wzrostu włosów (czyli ostrze porusza się bardziej w lewo–prawo względem naturalnego kierunku włosa), a nie pionowo wzdłuż niego.

Why are lateral slits used?
The main objectives are:
- Better control of the hair exit angle – the physician can more precisely determine the angle at which the hair emerges from the skin.
- A more natural-looking hairline – especially at the front, where direction and angle are crucial.
- The potential for greater "coverage" – the hair can lie flatter, creating the impression of increased density.
- Better replication of the natural hair growth pattern – especially in areas where hair grows at a shallow angle to the skin.
hair transplant methods
What method do we use for hair transplants?
At Aestepool Clinic, we specialize in hair transplantation using exclusively the Slits Micro FUE method. We do not use the outdated FUT (STRIP) method, which leaves visible scars. The choice of method depends on the degree of hair loss, hair structure, and the doctor's assessment.
Micro FUE
(Follicular Unit Extraction) method is currently the most widely performed hair transplant technique in the world. It involves extracting individual follicular units using precision micro-blades with a diameter of 0.6–0.9 mm.
The advantages of this method include the absence of visible scarring, a short recovery period, and the ability to wear short hairstyles after the procedure. Micro FUE is ideal for patients with receding hairlines or advanced hair loss—specifically those requiring a large number of grafts in a single session.
This term refers to the method of harvesting hair follicles from the donor area.

Slits
The "Slits" method defines the technique for implanting previously harvested hair follicles. The surgeon makes incisions using very thin blades (e.g., steel or sapphire) and then places the harvested grafts into them. The prepared channels must be of the appropriate depth and width to allow the doctor, in the subsequent step, to precisely implant the hair follicles into the prepared sites using tweezers.
This is one of the most widely used methods of hair follicle implantation in the world.

Direct Hair Implantation (DHI)
Direct Hair Implantation – is an advanced hair transplantation method derived from the FUE technique. It was first used in South Korea and is now considered one of the most precise hair transplant methods in the world..
The key difference compared to classic FUE is the combination of two stages, creating channels in the skin and implanting hair follicles into a single step performed with one instrument. This instrument is the DHI implanter, or Choi pen a specialized medical tool featuring a needle and a plunger, resembling a fountain pen.
