Methods for harvesting from the donor area:
FUE
"follicular unit extraction" allows for the harvesting of individual hair follicles from the donor area while avoiding extensive surgery. It is the least invasive method for the surgical extraction of grafts from the donor area. Grafts harvested in this manner are virtually ready for implantation.
FUT
"Follicular unit transplantation" is an older method used to harvest hair follicles from the donor area. Although used less frequently nowadays, it is more practical in certain situations. It involves excising a strip of skin containing hair follicles from the donor area and subsequently dividing it into individual graft units.
FUE vs FUT ?
FUE is the most commonly used method for harvesting hair follicles from the donor area (especially in men). Few clinics use the FUT method, which is suitable for individuals with a poor donor area or for women; the long linear scar in the donor area will not be visible on women, as it will be covered by their hair.
Hair implantation methods:
Slits
The surgeon makes incisions using very thin blades (e.g., steel or sapphire) and then places the harvested grafts into them. The prepared channels must be of the appropriate depth and width so that, in the subsequent stage, the doctor can use tweezers to precisely implant the hair follicles into the previously prepared sites.
DHI – Direct Hair Implantation
The method combines two steps into one. While creating channels with the DHI implanter, the surgeon simultaneously inserts new hair follicles pre-loaded into the device's tip. This reduces procedure time, allows for implantation at a sharper angle, and minimizes bleeding.
DHT- Direct Hair Transplantation
There are hybrid methods that combine the use of a DHI implanter with manual implantation using forceps. When creating the channels, the blade remains in the scalp, while forceps are used to assist in placing the follicles at the appropriate depth.
